idk why introverts have a reputation of being quiet and shy people who’d rather be alone. have you ever been friends with an introvert who’s decided you’re worth their time? we turn into the clingiest, most needy pieces of shit on the planet because there’s so few people we actually can stand

Happiness always looks small while you hold it in your hands, but let it go, and you learn at once how big and precious it is.

receiving a blessing from an elephant at a holy temple in the indian province of tamil nadu. photos by annette bonnier at sri ranganathar swamy temple; robb kendrick at nataraja temple in thanjavur; david pearson, at sri annamalaiyar temple in tiruvannamalai; niels van gijn in thanjavur, christophe boisvieux, at kamakshi amman temple in kanchipuram.

the practice, however, is controversial, as temple life can be harsh for a social animal made to spend much of its life chained and under the care of mahouts who do not always have the elephtants’ best interests in mind.

but tamil nadu is one of the few places on the planet where elephant populations are actually increasing. the indian population, however, is also increasing, forcing these elephants out of the forest and into the cities. as the elephant is considered sacred for hindus, many see temples as the only alternative to culling.

advocates for the elephants’ welfare have worked with local officials, helping to ensure the elephants are properly cared for. and while a forest rejuvenation camp has been established for the elephants in tamil nadu, some are still calling for an outright ban, despite opposition from many hindus who consider the elephant blessing sacred.
